At the beginning, we start the treatment by focusing on your selected areas. We focus on actively growing hair. This gives you the best immediate results.
It is the melanin in your hair that absorbs the heat from the Candela laser and heats the entire hair shaft.
At this point, the hair follicle is destroyed (or possible weakened due to the treatment process). This has the effect of detaching it from the hair shaft.
Once the hair follicle is destroyed, it’s impossible for hair to grow back. This gives you the desired effect of being completely without hair in that selected area of your body.

What should I do in preparation for treatment?
Avoid direct sun light for 2-4 weeks prior to treatment. Do not tweeze, wax or pluck the area being treated. The treatment area needs to be make-up free. Fake tanning products CANNOT be used 3-4 weeks prior to treatment. The area(s) must be cleanly shaved 24 hours prior to treatment to avoid skin irritation.
When will I start seeing results?
Treatment results may vary depending on your specific needs and the type of treatment you are undergoing. Typically for medical hair removal, a minimum of 6-8 treatments are recommended.
Does medical laser hair removal treatment have any downtime or side effects?
The skin may be slightly red and/or swollen immediately following the procedure, which typically lasts from a few minutes to several hours. However, this will be discussed up front on the consultation so that you are 100% informed. If you do have any redness or swelling after treatment, this should resolve in a couple of hours. Permanent side effects are rare but should be discussed with your practitioner.
Patients can resume daily activities immediately after treatment. To reduce any redness or swelling after treatment, it is recommended to apply a cool compress and aloe vera gel. Additionally, it is recommended to avoid sun exposure after laser treatment and apply a sunblock with SPF 30 or above. Avoid hot baths/showers, exercise/sports, swimming, saunas and sunbathing for 48 hours
Can you treat all skin types?
Our Medical Grade 4B Candela GentleMax Pro Plus is the gold standard in all Fitzpatrick Skin Types.The 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser, optimal for Fitzpatrick Skin Types IV-VI. The 755 nm Alexandrite laser is designed for Fitzpatrick skin Types I-III. The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus laser is best of both worlds, combining the 755 nm Alexandrite laser with the 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser for high performance treatment capabilities in terms of speed, ease-of use, and patient satisfaction.
How long is the treatment and how many will I need?
The number of treatment sessions required varies from patient to patient, the number and timing of these treatments will be advised by your practitioner. Often, you will need between 6 – 12 sessions. Some people will need more. We will gladly advise at the time of the initial consultation so that you have all the information you need.
The duration of each session varies from person to person, but on average they last about 20-30 minutes, depending on treatment area. The reason you need multiple treatments sessions is because hair grows in repeating cycles, and only in the actively growing phase does the hair contain enough pigment to absorb sufficient energy to disable the hair follicle. When hair is in the dormant phase, it has little or no pigment, and it cannot absorb laser energy.
Does it hurt?
The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus laser is combined with a unique Zimmer Cooling System, so most patients find GentleMax Pro Plus treatments extremely tolerable. Some people experience a sensation similar to having an elastic band snapped against the skin during treatment.
How does it work?
The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus Series lasers work by selectively targeting a specific chromophore (colour). This could be the melanin in a hair follicle or pigmented lesion.The laser light is absorbed into the target and heats that target to a high enough temperature to destroy it, but without damaging the surrounding tissue. The epidermal (skin) protection is provided by the Zimmer Cooling System.

The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus is best known for medical hair removal for all skin types, providing up to 95% permanent hair reduction after a course of treatments.
