How does it work?

SkinPen creates hundreds of thousands of “micro” skin punctures per second to stimulate the skin’s natural wound healing process – inflammation, proliferation and remodelling – to prompt tissue remodelling without causing scar tissue formation. Most patients can return to normal activities within 24 hours.

Is it safe?

Who should not use it?

SkinPen should not be used on patients who have active skin cancer in the treatment area(s); open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area(s); an allergy to stainless steel or anesthetics; a hemorrhagic (bleeding) disorder or hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction; are pregnant or nursing; or are currently taking drugs with the ingredient isotretinoin (such as Accutane). What about SkinPen did the FDA clear?

Quite a bit. The U.K. Food and Drug Administration’s clearance covers not only the SkinPen device but the entire protocol. That includes the Skinfuse® Lift HG hydrogel used to protect against abrasion and friction during the treatment, as well as the custom-designed BioSheath to prevent cross contamination.

What is the downtime?

The SkinPen treatment comes with a minimal recovery period; you will be able to resume your daily life almost straight away. You may notice some redness or mild swelling, but this should subside within the first 24-48 hours of the procedure.Your normal skincare programme can be resumed after day 3, with more active products being introduced after day 5 or when the skin has returned to normal.

What is the aftercare?

Avoid extreme temperatures such as hot water, saunas etcand unnecessary contact with the treated area for 48 hours after the treatment. SPF is essential for post procedure, which your practitioner will go through with you along with recommending appropriate skincare to help accelerate the healing process, protect the skin from environment and enhance your desired results.

How many treatments will I need?

This is a question that is hard to answer without a consultation where we can assess the area and have a conversation with you about your expectations. On average 3-6 treatments are recommended. However, once we can see the area, this may differ. Package deals are available so please ask about this at your consultation.

Does the treatment hurt?

Most people have no problem and say they feel nothing during the treatment as the numbing cream has done its job! However, this depends on the client’s pain threshold and sensitivity levels.

How long do the results last?

Once the desired results from the treatment have been achieved, they will last a minimum of 2-3 years on average. This is because the skin carries on ageing at the natural rate – this means some people may not need it doing again and others may like another treatment after this period of time to maintain results.
